Afraid, though, that by the time you posted this, I'd already taken the computer in for repair. It may take a while but once the lights go out connect the power cord and see if it will boot.Ĭhris CosgroveThanks very much for explaining all that. Since your keyboard is still illuminated then power is being drawn from the battery and it will eventually run flat and all voltage on the system will be lost. This process often unfreezes frozen computers, honest ! Removing the source of energy then holding the power button down discharges these capacitors so that when power is re-applied the computer is starting from a completely unpowered - cold - condition. So long as the battery has charge or the power cord is connected there is power going into the computer and the computer contains capacitors which hold charge. What I had hoped for was that by removing the battery you could perform what is called either a 'cold boot' or a 'power cycle'. It is possible to disconnect the battery from the mobo even with an internal battery but it requires at least partial dismantling of the laptop which you may well feel unable or unwilling to do, or may not have the tools to do. Moved from Win 10 support to Internal Hardware But the keyboard's still fully lit up.Įdited by Chris Cosgrove, 22 June 2021 - 03:24 AM. I've disconnected the power supply, I've removed the Ethernet connection and the Flash drive the laptop's not physically connected to anything at the moment. I've tried pressing the power button, I've tried holding down the power button, but nothing. But I can't do anything with the computer. That's completely lit up, as if the computer's still on. The only thing that stayed on, and is still on, is the keyboard. And no sound at all from the computer either.

No light on the power button, no light to indicate the computer was on, no light to indicate it was plugged in, no light to indicate the CPU was running. I was watching a video on YouTube when my laptop suddenly completely died.
